Time for me to have another bowl of waffles. I just can't make up my mind, no matter how much I edit!! Good thing no one can hear my inner dialogue!

in addition, I see reasons for not having people be able to go back and change their posts and posting history as you can really get to know a more full picture of a person by going back and reading all their posts - warts and all. As a moderator I can change all my posts but I think it would be unethical to go back and change/delete the ones I am not proud of but in the past we had some who were not like minded and changed theirs. in actuality I would prefer nobody be able to edit at all, just like e-mail we would be more careful about hitting the send button

just adding my opinion to the collective
I agree that having the ability to go back and edit your posts can potentially create more problems than it would solve. I am opposed to instituting the ability of members to edit their posts once the submit button is pressed. I use the preview post function to review posts prior to submitting them. Knowing that I can not change my post encourages me to really think about what I want to communicate and to review my work. Occasionally I make mistakes, misspell words and wish I hadn't said that but its no big deal because I am a human being complete with imperfections.

I am a professor at a local college and teach several online courses. In these moderated online course discussions students do not have the ability to edit their contributions after they have been submitted to the discussion. This fosters critical thinking skills and forces students to consider their written words prior to contributing them to the discussion. If students in my classes could edited their thoughts after contributing them to the online conversation we would not be having a real discussion or conversation.

I think that a more important tool that might help resolve this issue is to add a "Draft" function giving the poster the ability to save a "Draft" of his/her contribution prior to submitting the post. This gives contributors the ability to edit their posts over a period of time while developing their thoughts prior to clicking "Submit Reply".

Tomorrow I may wish that I did not write this. Should I hit "Submit Reply"? If I am not able to edit this later am I screwed? OK. I am going to click the button.

Now, let's get back to growing, preparing and using medical marijuana.
